Legal Department Mission Statement
To provide ethical, high quality, and efficient legal services to the Mayor, City Council, and all Departments of the City, and to enhance the quality of life in the City of Hoquiam by aggressively and fairly prosecuting violations of the law while protecting and preserving the rights of its citizens. The Legal Department is committed to serving the citizens of Hoquiam.
Hoquiam's City Attorney is Steve Johnson. Steve is a graduate of Hoquiam High School (1972). He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Central Washington University in 1976, with a major in Law and Justice, and a minor in Psychology.
He earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Lewis and Clark Law School, in Portland, Oregon, in 1979. He was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association that same year. He has been practicing law in Grays Harbor County his entire career.
Included in the duties of the position the city attorney:
- represents the City in all criminal cases brought by the City in Hoquiam Municipal Court
- acts as the legal adviser to the Mayor, City Council and the officers of the City
- advises the Civil Service Commission, the Building Code Council, and other citizen commissions
- represents the City in civil cases brought either for or against the City
The Receptionist/Secretary for the Legal Department is Robin Smith, (360) 637-6031 . Robin is a graduate of Aberdeen High School (1963). She obtained an Associate of Arts Degree from Grays Harbor Community College in 1971, and has lived and worked in Grays Harbor County for most of her life.
