MEET JACK DURNEY: CITY OF HOQUIAM MAYOR
"I believe the City is a community service organization", says Jack. "Its business is to provide public protection, transportation, utilities, recreation, a healthy business climate, and great quality of life for its citizens." His professional objective is to fulfill Hoquiam's mission of “providing the finest possible municipal service while preserving the City’s unique sense of community and quality of life.”

FAMILY ROOTS IN OUR CITY
Mayor Jack Durney was raised in Hoquiam. His family's roots are well established. His grandfather Durney came to Hoquiam in 1883. Jack is a 1966 graduate of Hoquiam High School, 1968 graduate of Grays Harbor College, and a 1970 graduate in political science at the University of Washington.

He and his wife Sue Ann have a blended family of four children - Jennifer Durney Hogarty, Patrick Durney, Anneliese Johannes Flansburg, and Vaughn Johannes -- and have two grand children, Kaila and Kylie Hogarty. He is the president of Durney Agency, Inc. which has been in the insurance business in Hoquiam since 1945.

CIVIC LEADERSHIP
Jack's community involvement includes prior service on the Hoquiam and Aberdeen city councils, serving as Aberdeen mayor, and the Board of Trustees of Grays Harbor College. Jack is completing his last term on the board of the Public Development Authority of Grays Harbor at Satsop.

THE CHALLENGES AHEAD
"My biggest goals for Hoquiam include economic development, improving the security and appearance of our neighborhoods, creating more opportunities for citizens to participate in shaping our community's future, and making sure that the City of Hoquiam is well managed and responsive to the need for change."
