City of Hoquiam encourages green industry, green practices – April 22, 2008
The City of Hoquiam is proud to announce our recent change to using Harbor 100, Grays Harbor Paper’s 100% post consumer recycled paper. The switch was prompted by City efforts to support local “green” industry. The City of Hoquiam and Mayor Jack Durney encourage the business community and citizens to follow suit in supporting our emerging green industry sector. “It is extremely important to shop locally and we hope to set an example to showcase the many goods and services that our local businesses provide,” said Mayor Jack Durney. The announcement highlights direct actions by the City to promote sustainable business practices and the City’s sustainable future.
Grays Harbor Paper’s Harbor 100 contains zero virgin fibers and is manufactured using 100% certified renewable carbon neutral energy. The energy is generated by local biomass wood waste. Combined, the various departments within the City consume approximately three tons of paper each year. By switching to the Harbor 100, the City will conserve approximately 10 tons of wood or 72 trees, 26,251 gallons of wastewater, 10 million BTU’s, 3,371 pounds of solid waste and 6,324 pounds of greenhouse gases each year (www.papercalculator.org).
