2025 National Night Out
On the evening of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, neighborhoods throughout Hoquiam will join forces across the country with over 16,000 communities for the “National Night Out” against crime. Hoquiam has been a proud participant for many years, and we are asking for participants to host parties in their neighborhoods again this year.
National Night Out provides an opportunity for our community members to get to know one another and build strong networks of communication about what is happening in the neighborhood.
All you need to do is host a block party, invite your neighbors, and get to know each other better! We recommend inviting everyone over for a potluck or BBQ. Most block parties are from 6:00 PM to around 9:00 PM and are a great way to get together and have fun!
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back! Hoquiam public officials, police officers, firefighters and Crime Watch volunteers will drop in at each block party to visit and talk about important crime prevention and general safety tips.
To sign up for a block party or to obtain more information regarding this event, please contact Tasha Parris at 360-538-3970 or tparris@cityofhoquiam.com. Please indicate when signing up if you will need barricades to shut down your street so we can arrange to have those dropped off.

Each spring, hundreds of thousands of shorebirds stop to rest and feed along the Washington Coast and in the Grays Harbor estuary during their migration northward. Coming from as far south as Argentina, these Arctic-bound shorebirds are among the world's greatest migrants. Some birds travel over 15,000 miles round trip! The concentration of birds during spring migration offers people a great chance to view a number of shorebird species.
The shorebird spectacle happens every year at Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge and in other parts of the County. People from around the world come to view this event of hemispheric importance. The festival works to bring people together for this incredible natural phenomenon.
